A Prayer for Shabbat Chukat-Balak

Avinu Malkeinu, our Father and our King — Maker of heaven and earth, Sovereign over every nation and every age, we lift our hearts to You on this holy Shabbat.

You who taught Israel the mystery of the waters of purification, who cleansed the defiled and brought life out of death by Your decree — purify us now, Adonai. Wash away what separates us from You, and let the living waters of Your Ruach renew Your people.

You who turned the curse of Balaam into blessing, who put praise in the mouth that came to revile — how lovely are the tents of Yaakov, how good Your dwelling places, O Israel! Speak blessing again over Your people; let no curse devised against them stand, for the One who watches over Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps.

As the prophet Micah declared, You have not forgotten Your covenant. You who brought us up from Egypt and redeemed us from the house of bondage, be faithful still — for You have shown us what is good: to do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God.

So we pray, Adonai Tzva'ot: Grant shalom and Your sheltering protection to the people of Israel, to this land of the United States, and to all the peoples of the Middle East. Spread over them Your sukkat shalom, Your canopy of peace. Give to those who lead these nations a spirit of wisdom and discernment, and clothe them in humility before You, the only true King.

And we ask, with longing, for the day when the veil is lifted — when every eye beholds Yeshua our Messiah, the pure and spotless One, our water of life and our living blessing, and when He is revealed, recognized, and received in glory.

Hasten that day, Adonai. Turn our mourning into dancing, and let the redeemed of Israel sing.

Oseh shalom bimromav — May the One who makes peace in His high places make peace for us, for all Israel, and for all who dwell on the earth. B’Shem Yeshua, And let us say: Amen.
