No Weapon Shall Prosper: A Prayer for Israel on Parashat Re'eh
Congregation Sha'arei Shalom
Prayer for Israel
Parashat Re'eh | Tuesday, August 4, 2026
Torah: Deuteronomy 11:26-16:17; Haftarah: Isaiah 54:11-55:5
Shalom, Mishpacha —
This coming Shabbat we read Parashat Re'eh — "See." Moses sets two roads in front of Israel: blessing on one side, curse on the other, and nothing neutral in between. It's a portion about the weight of a choice, and about a God who keeps setting that choice honestly before His people rather than making it for them.
Avinu שֶׁבַּשָּׁמַיִם — Our Father in Heaven,
We come before You this week for Israel — her people, her land, her calling — and we ask You to be near.
The Choice of Re'eh
"See, I set before you today a blessing and a curse" (Deuteronomy 11:26, TLV). Lord, Israel's leaders face real choices this year with real weight — and so does every nation with a hand in this region's peace. Give them the courage to choose the road that actually leads toward blessing, even when the harder road looks safer.
No Weapon Shall Prosper
This week's haftarah promises a rebuilt Jerusalem and says, "no weapon formed against you will prosper" (Isaiah 54:17, TLV). We hold onto that promise for Israel today. Protect her cities, her borders, her soldiers, and her children. "Great will be the shalom of your children" (Isaiah 54:13, TLV) — Lord, let that be true, not just of the world to come, but of this generation, now.
Come to the Waters
"Ho, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters" (Isaiah 55:1, TLV) — an invitation we believe is fulfilled in Yeshua, the Living Water. Lord, let Israel taste and see that her own Messiah has been standing at this well the whole time. Make Yeshua known — not as a foreign name, but as the Son of David her own prophets promised, the One through whom nations who did not know her would come running (Isaiah 55:5).
Praying for Israel and Her Neighbors
Lord, we ask for real and lasting peace throughout the Middle East — for Israel, for her neighbors, for every family still touched by war and grief. Protect Israel's citizens, soldiers, and land. Give her leaders wisdom, and give the fragile ceasefire and ongoing peace efforts in the region the strength to hold and grow into something more permanent. We do not presume to know every step forward, but we know You do — so we ask You to guide it.
Together
Re'eh sets blessing and curse before Israel. Isaiah sets an open invitation before the thirsty. Let Israel choose blessing, and let her recognize the Water she has been offered all along. Hasten the day Israel sees her Messiah, and the nations run to the light shining from her.
"Behold, I have made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander for the peoples." (Isaiah 55:4, TLV — Haftarah, Re'eh)
B'shem Yeshua HaMashiach
